VCAABA was honored to have Senior Circuit Judge Tashima give a speech on the "State of the Ninth Circuit" to our members at a dinner held at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, Westlake Village on September 20, 2005.
Senior Circuit Judge Tashima is the first Japanese American appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is currently the only Asian American judge on the Ninth Circuit and is the highest ranking Asian American in the federal judiciary. Judge Tashima is the co-author of the Rutter Group practice guide “Federal Civil Procedure Before Trial.” He has served on a number of judicial committees, including the ABA’s Judicial Immigration Education Project. He has also been active in legal reform projects abroad, particularly in Asia.
