VCAABA's Lunchtime Presentation: Identifying And Preventing Substance Abuse In The Asian American Community June 10, 2008 - Greenhouse Cafe, Thousand Oaks VCAABA hosted a luncheon presentation at the Greenhouse Cafe in Thousand Oaks, featuring Sam H. Joo, CAS of the National Asian Pacific American Families Against Substance Abuse – Technical Assistance Project of California Mr. Joo's informative presentation covered topics including: - Understanding the signs and symptoms of drug abuse in Asian families - Gaining insight on how Asian cultural and family dynamics impact substance abuse - Identifying culturally appropriate interventions and service referrals Mr. Joo is currently the Prevention Director with the Asian American Drug Abuse Program and has been involved in working in the social service community for the past 15 years in the field of substance abuse, mental health, and youth development. He serves as Treasurer and Co-Chair of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee of the Asian Pacific Policy & Planning Council, a Los Angeles County organization. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
